Booking Your Vacation On-line – What Can You Do Yourself That Your Travel Agent Cannot?

For most people two weeks vacation a year is the highlight of their year. For many people the thought of two weeks on a sun kissed beach in the summer is the only thing that keeps them going through the long cold and dark winter days. But what we think of as a summer holiday is somewhat different than what we would have looked to book 10 – 15 years ago. Back then we were all in the laps of a travel agent who would point us in the right direction of a hotel in a location that they think might be suitable for our needs, but then the inter web came along. If nothing else the inter web has allowed people to research their summer holiday and discover new destinations that they would not usually have thought about or even have heard of, the inter web allows you to widen your travel horizons and helps you to seek out new and exciting places. We all know that you can book a weekend away via the web but how far can you really go just using the web as your arranging point of reference?

Anything a travel agent can do you can do better and maybe even cheaper. Travel agents existence was solely based on the fact that they had information at their fingertips that you did not so you had to go through them to book your holiday. That is not to say that they did a bad job, on the contrary many travel agents did a wonderful job and most people I know have been very pleased when dealing with the travel agent. But times have changed and you are now able to do everything a travel agent could do for you and a lot more. One of the beauties of using the inter web to plan your travel is the flexibility that you can achieve and how easy it is to achieve everything. If you are not happy with the price of a flight or the timing of a flight then simply search for a different flight or a different airline. The same goes with accommodation and hotels. Whereas in the past you would be stuck with the tour operator’s airline and their hotel that is no longer the case, allowing you to find yourself a better deal and one that better suits your needs.

For many people a travel agent used to be the only way they could possibly arrange a round the world trip, this was a double edged sword as by using an agent who could arrange everything for you the price was sky high and prohibitive to many people but the Internet does away with all that and opens up a world of travel. Travel to Australia is one such example of a destination and vacation that has been made so much simpler for the traveler since the onset of the inter web. In many of the remotest parts of Australia you will find the most beautiful parts of the country but these were relatively unvisited before people could find them on the net, now the whole of the continent has opened up.

Australia for visitors is a much easier place to access than it was previously and is a prime example of what you can achieve without the use of a travel agent. Booking bed and breakfast in Warrnambool is something that you would never ever have dreamed possible 15 years ago, even through a travel but yet now thanks to the magic of the inter web you can not only book bed and breakfast in Warrnambool but you can be on first name terms with the owner when you arrive.
Now if that is not progress I do not know what is.

There are things in life that we would all love to do and there are places in the world that we would love to visit but never ever seem to get round to doing any of them. For many people their idea of a two week beach holiday is exactly that, staying in a resort and either spending the day sat lounging by the pool or sat on the beach listening to the ocean slowly lapping at the shore. For other people a two week vacation is something that happens in the vicinity of a hotel, a pool or the beach and these are all parts of a holiday that add to the overall adventure that can be experienced. So if you are a relatively safe traveler but would like to experience something a little different this year what should you be looking out for that will push your boundaries of adventure just that little bit more?
